Design Workshop Technologies Announces The Release of dw-2000 Version 8.30

Design Workshop Technologies is proud to announce the release of version 8.30 of its successful layout and verification software dw-2000®. This release contains new features and many improvements, and we would like to thank our customers for their valuable input.

Among the new features are:

For more information on the improvements of dw-2000 version 8.30, please read the Release Notes.

Support of Windows Vista

Version 8.30 of dw-2000 can now be installed on Windows Vista 32 and 64 bits Edition.

Technology Packages

A Technology Package creates a layout environment for one specific technology or (foundry) process. It allows the user to bundle all the necessary files of a design flow. The framework that is loaded automatically helps organize the design environment, speed-up design work and hide IP (if necessary).

A typical technology file can contain:

  • Default library with standard cell samples and pre-defined layer definitions

  • Design Rule Checking and Extraction scripts

  • Parametric Cell (Pcell) Kits

  • Process and technology specific programs

  • User interface such as menus and toolbars

Background Image

This feature is now provided with the layout editor and allows users to load an image in the background of a structure window; hence the possibility to layout ?on top of? a SEM or other microscopic picture.

Offgrid Checking & Element Snapping

Users can check whether vertices of elements are on a specified grid. Offgrid errors can occur after operations, such as rotation or magnification, which could lead to snapping errors at a later stage (for example during fracturing). The new ?snap to grid? command forces element vertices on a particular grid.

PCell Samples

PCells are user defined parametric cells. This release contains several samples that allow for the quick drawing of shapes such as circles, rings, rectangles (with or without rounded corners) or of more complex devices.

GPE Samples

Graphics Programming Environment (GPE) refers to the inherent scripting language within dw-2000. It gives dw-2000 the flexibility to simplify design flows and significantly speed-up design tasks.

Among the latest GPE samples are solutions that:

  • show how to import and export data from and to Excel files

  • find the top structure and other important information in a library

  • create layer names automatically after a design has been imported from GDSII

  • can round corners of a shape or a whole group

The Release Notes provide an overview of all new GPE samples. We welcome any feedback and we continue to develop further solutions together with our customers.

Viewer allows browsing of multiple structures

The updated dw-2000 viewer allows the browsing of multiple structures, similar to the layout editor.
